Senior Systems Engineer (Virtualization)

Job Description Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field At least 4 years of total professional experience in the relevant field At least 4 years of hands-on experience in supporting Server Infrastructure (both hardware and Unix/Linux & Windows operating systems), including expertise in system installation, configuration, management, troubleshooting, performance optimization, preventive maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring, and security procedures At least 4 years of hands-on experience in virtualization/virtual system management (preferably within the VMware product family: VCF, vSAN, vCenter, vSphere 5/6, vROPS, SRM, vRealize, Log Insight, NSX, VRNI) Knowledge and hands-on experience in breaking down engineering tasks into sub-components and delegating work to junior engineers Preferably knowledge and hands-on experience with Hyper-converged Infrastructures (Nutanix, vSAN, vxRail, HP Simplivity, etc.) Preferably knowledge and hands-on experience with storage systems (SAN, NAS, RAID Array, etc.) Preferably knowledge and hands-on experience in building scalable, highly available, and mission-critical virtual infrastructures, including cluster management, redundancy, and failover testing Preferably knowledge and hands-on experience with disaster recovery technologies Preferably knowledge and hands-on experience working with ITIL, Cobit, ISO27001, and Service Management best practices Preferably VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) certification Ability to prepare thorough system documentation with high attention to detail, including requirements documents, operational specifications, system architecture, test plans, and as-built documentation Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines Ability to build strong relationships and influence others across the organization Effectiveness in handling ambiguity Strong analytical and excellent problem-solving skills Responsibilities Providing Subject Matter Expertise (SME) for Virtualized Infrastructure; ensuring its management, maintenance, installation, and development Managing and optimizing the Virtualization and Operating System (Windows, Linux) environments for system configuration, high availability, and system data accounting Guaranteeing Service Availability and Quality through patches, component/firmware updates, and/or technology refreshes in alignment with the technology roadmap Maintaining and restoring Virtual Machine (VM) backups and snapshots Generating system analyses regarding capacity, health, performance, and usage to evaluate and adapt system improvements Developing and maintaining custom scripts to increase system efficiency, automate manual tasks, and reduce human intervention time Assisting in outlining the support and sustainability model for the implemented service(s) Acting as an escalation point for lower-tier teams in resolving Virtualization Infrastructure issues, using predefined work instructions for troubleshooting Performing advanced analysis and troubleshooting of complex issues/problems Leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reviews for incidents, involving vendors/manufacturers when necessary Defining Policies, Procedures, and Instructions to ensure system availability, stability, security, and integrity for the server infrastructure Providing Continuous Process Improvement by evaluating operating system and hardware technologies, versions, and upgrades Collaborating with other technical service teams to manage, maintain, and resolve complex IT services Working collaboratively within the team, across IT, with business units, and with 3rd party vendors or systems Working with other infrastructure team members to determine tactical solutions for support and/or implementation scenarios
