Economist

This position is with the U. S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), within the Directorate of Standards and Guidance (DSG). This position is at the full performance level. This position is inside the bargaining unit. This position is NOT remote. Selectee will be expected to report to a DOL office in either Washington, DC, or Philadelphia, PA. Duties for the Economist position include, but are not limited to the following: Assisting the Office Director in the administration of private sector contracts in support of the Office's regulatory impact analyses. Providing high level technical advice and economic support to the Director of Standards and Guidance, the Office Director, and rulemaking staff. Conducting economic analyses of existing and proposed safety and health programs and their effects on the workforce and employers in support of strategic decision-making by the Director of Standards and Guidance or the Assistant Secretary. Serving as an OSHA representative to departmental and interagency (e.g., EPA, 0MB) panels and committees on regulatory economic policy and regulatory process. Serving as a senior economic advisor on staff technical activities to resolve problems and facilitate work results through meetings, work conferences, and analysis of work products. You must meet the Basic Requirements and the Specialized Experience to qualify for the Economist, GS-0110-14 Basic Requirements: 1. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR 2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience as listed below or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirements above, applicants must also meet the specialized experience shown below: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13, in the Federal Service. Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13. Qualifying experience for the GS-14 includes: Conducting economic research assignments, such as estimating the economic impact of regulations or other public policies. Delivering the findings of individual economic research both orally and in writing. Leading teams working to address economic or policymaking issues. Any applicant falsely claiming an academic degree from an accredited school will be subject to actions ranging from disqualification from federal employment to removal from federal service.
