SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (EARLY INTERVENTION)

About the Position: Serves as a Speech/Language Pathologist in the Educational and Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS) program. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Provides Early Intervention Services (EIS) to infants/toddlers and their families who are eligible for early intervention under the Department of Defense criteria. Implements a family-centered approach to services that supports and fosters confidence and competence in families to meet the needs of their child. Provides service coordination for families coordinating with community agencies to assist families in meeting the complex needs of their child. Participates in the EDIS public awareness program to include providing information on infant and toddler developmental milestones and the critical importance of the early identification of infants and toddlers with disabilities. Basic Requirement for Speech/Language Therapist (Early Intervention): Education: The mandatory education program described below must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (external link) (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (external link) (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree: A graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology with approved clinical practice. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application) AND License: a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech/Language Pathology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (You must submit a copy of your license with your application) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the (GS-11) grade level in the Federal Service which includes: conducting multidisciplinary developmental assessments using standardized protocols, and the development and implementation of Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) for infants and toddlers with disabilities; analyzing and interpreting test results in the evaluation of all five developmental domains and especially in communicative disorders of children; delivering Speech-Language pathology and other developmental support services in an early intervention setting using a parent coaching model; and collaborating with individuals and groups to evaluate and resolve problems in hearing, voice, language, or speech. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
