OCEANOGRAPHER

You will serve as a OCEANOGRAPHER in the Acoustics Department, of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS. You will establish, maintain, and manage environmental acoustic analysis support for the department. You will propose innovation or participate as team lead in innovation of new environmental acoustic planning and decision support products. You will review proposed analysis upgrades and enhancements for technical rigor and applicability for mission objectives. You will prepare professional scientific and technical documents, reports, and presentations. In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience directing technical requirements, developing comprehensive data collection plans, and managing project resources and milestones form inception to completion for underwater acoustics or oceanographic scientific programs. Experience processing raw acoustic datasets, identifying and rectifying data deficiencies, and applying complex acoustic data analysis methodologies. Experience formulating and delivering clear, authoritative written technical reports, scientific evaluations, and oral briefings of complex acoustic concepts to various multidisciplinary teams, leadership, and external stakeholders. Experience executing acoustic modeling by applying advanced principles and physics of underwater acoustics propagation in both deep and shallow water environments. Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess Oceanography Series 1360 Basic Requirements: Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences. or Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
