# Educational Technician (Seasonal)

You will serve as a Educational Technician (Seasonal) located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Southeast Region, Division of Interpretation and Visitor Services, Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. . This position is also open under the Field Local Unit Hiring Authority on announcement CAHQ-26-13067927-FUL-TS. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Mammoth Cave National Park is Jan-Nov, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: Jan 2027 At the full performance level (GS-05) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Presents curriculum-based education programs for diverse, K-12 school groups. Programs include those associated within or outside the park's boundaries, as part overall education strategy, consistent with school academic standards and park interpretive themes. Uses appropriate educational methods and techniques, adapts programs as necessary for needs of the audience, and ensures participant safety. Assists in curriculum-based program development, including planning, researching, writing, and/or modifying activities, materials and interactive learning tools for use with school groups, based on audience characteristics and park themes and priorities. Trains and directs seasonal park staff, partner staff and volunteers to assist in preparation and presentation of educational programs and activities, engagement of students, and safety. Organizes, maintains, inventories, replenishes, and coordinates repair of equipment and materials used in presenting education programs.
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/02/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. All candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: Specialized Experience Requirement: you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience could include clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position such as Park Ranger, tour guide, teachers or teacher's aide, or recreation assistant. You must include hours per week worked.
• OR- Education Have completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. • OR- Combination of education and experience. Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) which included at least 12 semester hours of related coursework as specified in B above (50% of the related coursework required). IMPORTANT

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current or former displaced Federal employees who are surplus, displaced, or involuntarily separated have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP). To be considered under CTAP/ICTAP, you must be well-qualified, score at least 85 (i.e., meet the minimum qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors; education, and experience requirements), and be able to perform the duties of the position upon entry.

Driver's License: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. Uniform: You are required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards. Minimum Age Requirement:You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Age Restriction-MVO: You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.
You must submit a copy of your transcript(s) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include your name, school name, grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, and date the degree was conferred, if applicable. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted. Non-submission may result in being rated not qualified for the position. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work. Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.
