# AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

U.S. Pacific Fleet

You will serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in the PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. The location for this position is Garden Island, Australia See Additional Information section below for details
You will remove, install, align, repair and test various submarines and surface craft systems.
You will make templates, jigs, and other fixtures required for repair or installation utilizing knowledge of materials and their versatility.
You will apply knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration compressors, ship's air conditioning, chill water and temporary support equipment aboard submarines and surface craft.
You will apply standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories and industry practices in calculating needed materials and problem solving.
You will troubleshoot shipboard refrigeration systems, piping and components to determine the area of difficulty; what parts or materials are required; and the methods used to complete repairs.
You will plan and lay out work using blueprints, sketches, word orders and other technical work documents.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Installing, repairing and testing various submarines and surface craft systems, piping's and components including Refrigeration Air Conditioning (RAC) plant, Refrigeration Ship's Stores (RSS) plant, Low Pressure Air Dehydrator, chill water, temporary support systems, and various self-contained units Making templates, jigs and other fixtures required for repair or installation Removing and installing piping, tubing and system valves Applying knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration compressors, ship's air conditioning, refrigeration, chill water, low pressure air dehydrator, cooling oils, and temporary support equipment related to submarines and surface crafts Applying standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories and industry practices in calculating needed materials and problem solving Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. Upon relocation to Australia, employee pay will be based upon the final post of duty to which the employee is assigned in Australia. Employees directed to a foreign post of duty in Australia may be authorized overseas allowances in accordance with the Department of State Standardized Regulation to include foreign transfer allowance, temporary quarters allowance, living quarters allowance and other allowances to which they are eligible. Employees (and their family members) who require medical care in Australia may experience limitations accessing medical care both on the military installation and the local economy and could incur costly medical expenses.
