Operation Research-Software Developer

About the Role The Operations Research (OR) team develop mathematical optimization models and decision support solutions to improve operational decisions. For these solutions to deliver real value, they must receive data reliably from enterprise systems, pass their results to users and other systems, and run sustainably in a live environment. In this role, you will take optimization solutions from prototype to production. You will design integrations with data sources, lead the move of applications into test, UAT and production environments, and manage architecture and information security processes. You will act as the technical bridge between the OR team and IT teams. This is not a classic DevOps or classic software developer role. The majority of your work is software engineering, systems integration and IT processes; understanding optimization solutions and meeting their technical needs is an important part of the job. You do not need to be an optimization expert; however, intro level knowledge in the field and willingness to learn are expected. This position will be • Design and develop integrations between optimization applications and enterprise systems (REST API / web services, direct database connections, file-based integration and other methods as needed) • Build services that pull data from sources such as the flight information system and deliver model outputs to systems and users through APIs, databases or user interfaces • Apply suitable architecture patterns so that long-running optimization jobs are triggered, monitored and completed reliably • Set up development, test, UAT and production environments and move applications between them • Meet logging, monitoring, error handling and maintainability requirements for applications • Track performance, scalability and availability of applications running in production • Handle Optimization tool licensing and configuration directly, or coordinate it with the relevant infrastructure teams • Define the requirements of infrastructure on which optimization applications run • Contribute to the IT / solution architecture design of applications and lead review and approval processes with enterprise architecture teams • Assess information security requirements and coordinate security review and approval processes with the security teams • Ensure authentication, authorization, service security and access permissions are handled properly • Standardize solutions that repeat across projects and help shape a common deployment, integration and production approach • Work with OR Scientists to make models more production-ready How do we describe the perfect match ? • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field • 4–7 years of experience in backend development, APIs and systems integration (candidates with strong production experience and 3 years may also be considered) • Strong skills in at least one backend language and working proficiency in Python • Experience designing and developing REST APIs / web services • Experience with SQL and relational databases • Experience deploying applications and supporting production environments on Linux and Windows Server • Solid command of Git and the software development lifecycle • Basic knowledge of authentication, authorization and service security • Familiarity with logging and monitoring approaches • Strong communication and coordination skills for working with architecture, security and infrastructure teams • Openness to understanding and learning about mathematical optimization solutions Nice-to-Have Skills • Familiarity with Operations Research, Linear Programming (LP) or Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) concepts • Experience with Gurobi, CPLEX, Pyomo or similar optimization tools • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD • Microservice architectures and message-queue-based systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka) • Experience with asynchronous job management, batch and scheduled processing • Experience with cloud environments • Background in aviation or operations management • Additional backend experience with Java or C# Benefits Of Working With Us In addition to having the opportunity to grow and be challenged, and to be part of a life, our people enjoy a range of rewarding benefits: Flexible working arrangements, generous personal, parental and cultural leave Competitive remuneration Free and subsidized health and wellbeing services Discounts on a wide range of products and services Career development opportunities A buddy who will guide and accompany you during your onboarding process A great number of online courses and technical trainings that will support your development Personalized development plan for you Using CED & Pass Flight for travelling experience with your family Support payment for childcare Be Yourself We value the unique backgrounds, experiences and contributions that each person brings to our team and encourage and celebrate diversity.
