Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. Our infrastructure team provides a range of design services on projects in both the public and private sectors. We work very closely with other Arup teams as part of Arup-wide multidisciplinary teams across the world. The team works principally in a BIM-focused environment, constructing civil engineering designs in Civil 3D and Revit for coordination and connection with each discipline team in a collaborative Common Data Environment (CDE). We deploy green infrastructure (GI) and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) designs to the maximum extent possible on our projects. At Arup, we combine the various core civil engineering aspects of a project into a single business offering for our clients, delivered by our dedicated Civil Engineering team. The Opportunity This is an opportunity to lead technically demanding linear and site infrastructure work across Europe South, combining roads, utilities and sustainable drainage design within multidisciplinary project teams. You will work directly with clients from feasibility through completion, shape design ambitions, support permitting and procurement, oversee construction-stage delivery and contribute to the continued development of our Civil Engineering business and colleagues. As a Senior Civil and Utilities Engineer at Arup, you will: Lead the design and delivery of technically demanding linear and site infrastructure, including roads and utilities, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Act as project lead, managing the service, providing a direct interface with clients’ teams and liaising with clients from feasibility through completion to help set and deliver the design ambitions. Define the site surveys and testing needed to acquire site-specific design data, and develop site infrastructure design through the design stages, permitting and procurement processes. Manage the supervision of civil construction works as part of the clerk of works team. Help develop the Civil Engineering business through client meetings, bid documentation and wider business development activities, while taking personal responsibility for managing and developing colleagues. Actively share knowledge across the team to support the delivery of the highest quality of service to clients. Does this role inspire you? About We’re looking for a suitably qualified Civil Engineer who is passionate about site development, particularly for industrial and data centre projects, and the impact that design has on our environment. We also value: A degree in Civil Engineering, a minimum of 8 years’ experience within a consultancy environment and chartered professional status or progress towards gaining the qualification. Strong civil engineering technical design skills across roads and car parks, surface water, foul water, energy, earthworks, electrical and fibre utilities, together with experience producing drawings, specifications and reports to programme and budget. Awareness of local and international regulatory and planning frameworks, with experience managing civil engineering projects through the planning process and leading the design process from conceptual layout through detailed design and construction. Experience managing internal and external design interfaces, including architectural, structural, geotechnical, landscape, mechanical and electrical disciplines. A commitment to driving digital delivery and keeping up to date with industry developments in digital design and BIM, including experience leading teams in a digital/BIM environment and coordinating civil services with other disciplines. Experience with Civil 3D and other BIM software such as Revit and InfraWorks, knowledge of Navisworks and clash detection and hydraulic modelling software, and excellent written, verbal, presentation and organisational skills.
