ROLE PURPOSE Ensure that orchards and produce-handling processes comply with agronomic standards by identifying and implementing growing, storage and transportation conditions that improve product quality and shelf life. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Develop and regularly update agronomic standards for farms and orchards covering the key crops:
• Greenhouse crops (mandatory: peppers, eggplants and zucchini; preferred: berries and melons).
• Open-field crops (mandatory: citrus — mandarins, oranges, lemons and grapefruit; stone fruit — sweet cherries, peaches and nectarines; grapes; and pomegranates. Preferred: pome fruit — apples and pears; exotic fruit — figs and kiwifruit). 2. Conduct on-site inspections of orchards and farms: assess tree and plant health, the quality and proper operation of irrigation systems, and correct fertilizer application against the established standards. Prepare visit reports documenting deviations and recommended corrective actions. 3. Develop and implement standards for the company’s own facilities and logistics operations, from field to the customer’s warehouse. 4. Gradually establish and substantiate the relationship between growing conditions and the quality/shelf life of finished produce, including the preservation of marketable qualities during storage and transportation. 5. Advise growers and farmers on implementing standards and improving agronomic practices. 6. Engagement format: one-year contract with a flexible workweek; payment based on completed work. PROBATIONARY-PERIOD OBJECTIVES 1. Review the key orchards/farms and their agronomic practices. 2. Develop or refine standards for 1–2 priority crops. 3. Conduct the first on-site inspections and prepare an orchard condition report. 4. Agree on reporting templates and checklists for regular inspections. 5. Begin collecting data to analyze the relationship between growing conditions and produce storage quality. EXPECTED RESULTS (annual objectives) 1. Agronomic standards have been developed and implemented for all priority crops (citrus, stone fruit, eggplant and zucchini). 2. On-site orchard inspections are conducted regularly according to schedule; deviations are documented and corrected. 3. A practical, evidence-based relationship between growing conditions and produce shelf life/quality has been established. Standards for the company’s own facilities and logistics operations have been developed and implemented. 4. Customer acceptance rates and crop preservation performance have improved across the inspected orchards and farms.
